We are proud to share our partnership with The HALO Trust, one of the world’s largest and most respected humanitarian landmine clearance organizations. Rural Senses conducted an impact evaluation of their work in Zimbabwe and identified cross-sectoral impacts.
Our evaluation approach was AI-enabled and community-led. Local data collectors from the region conducted open conversations in the local language with community members to explore the changes brought about by the project. AI models were used for “Outcome Harvesting,” identifying key changes mentioned during these conversations.
Following this, we conducted a second data collection to quantify the breadth and depth of these changes. Finally, all data were analyzed and visualized on our impact dashboard, which offers a simple yet powerful representation of the impact, along with an interactive chat feature (ChatGPT-like) for engaging with the data.
The use of open conversations with local community members ensured that we captured actual changes, including independent and unintended ones. The use of AI allowed us to scale this process effectively. The interactive dashboard makes the results accessible and actionable.
While The HALO Trust utilizes the impact dashboard, a summary of the findings can be found in this article.
